WELCOME TO NAKURU WEST SECONDARY SCHOOL

Nakuru West Secondary School was started by the local community in the year 1986 due to pressing need for a secondary school in the populous urban Kaptembwo Location in Nakuru West Constituency. The 3.234 hectares land that the school is built on was donated by the Kipsigis - Tugen Enterprises.


From the initial single stream, the school has grown to a 5 stream status. It is currently a mixed day and partial boys boarding secondary school with a student population of 771 i.e. 381 boys and 390 girls. The school academic performance has been steadily improving for example in   2011 D+; 2012 D+; 2013 C-; 2014 C-; 2015C-.


The school is managed by Board of Management Committee, Parents’ Association Committee and a democratically elected Students Council. There are 32 teachers - 15 male and 17 female; (27 are TSC employees and 5 are BOM employees). The school has employed 14 support staff under the BOM.


The school offers a diverse curriculum and the following subjects are taught: Mathematics, English, Kiswahili, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Geography, History and Government, Christian Religious Studies, Agriculture, Home science, Business studies and Computer studies.
There is a strong careers, guidance and counseling department which ensure that students’ developmental, emotional and spiritual issues are well catered for. The school also offers diverse games and sporting activities like; ball games and athletics. to the students as well as societies and clubs such as Y.C.S, C.U, S.D.A. red cross, scouts, Junior Achievers, environmental, science and journalism. In addition to clubs and societies, the school calendar has a talents day where students are given an opportunity to display their talents.


1n 2014 the school got funding from the Kenya Primary and Secondary Education in Poor urban areas Phase III (K.P.S.E.P-III); co-funded by the Kenya government and the Federal Republic of Germany (KfW Bank). From this funding, the school is constructing modern classrooms, new laboratories, a library, a computer laboratory, a new kitchen, a borehole an amphitheater and a multipurpose hall which will be completed by March 2017.
